Members of the community gathered at the Garden City Library on November 11, 2014 for a special public service presentation, jointly sponsored by the four Property Owners’ Associations of Garden City. The evening included an informative session on Ebola Preparedness presented by John F. Collins, President and CEO of Winthrop-University Hospital, and Michael Ammazzalorso, MD, Winthrop’s Chief Medical Officer. Mr. Collins and Dr. Ammazzalorso spoke to residents about Winthrop’s overall Ebola preparedness plans, protocols for screening individuals who come to the hospital, employee training, county-wide preparations as well as other matters surrounding this recent public health concern. At the conclusion of the meeting, Dr. Ammazzalorso answered questions about the nature of the disease, symptoms and known risks for infection.
Robert Nouryan, speaking on behalf of the four Property Owners' Associations of Garden City, expressed his gratitude to Mr. Collins and Dr. Ammazzalorso for their excellent joint presentation, wishing only that more area residents could have been present at this timely discussion.
“Residents should rest assured that everything possible is being done at Winthrop-University Hospital to protect the health and well-being of community members, patients and staff from Ebola as we remain committed to our enduring guiding principle – “Your Health Means Everything,” said Mr. Collins.
