November 26, 2012

Committed to providing patients with digestive disorders with the best care possible, The McCann Endoscopy Center at Winthrop-University Hospital is well equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and an experienced team of physicians and staff who perform a full range of endoscopic gastrointestinal procedures.

Thanks to the generosity of Manhasset resident Jim McCann, President and CEO of 1-800-FLOWERS.COM, Inc. and member of Winthrop’s Board of Directors, and The Claire Friedlander Family Foundation – a nonprofit organization that is devoted to promoting tolerance throughout the world, proliferation of the arts and advocacy for people who need help – a recent donation in the amount of $10,000 will help expand the Center’s advanced gastrointestinal endoscopy program.

“We deeply appreciate the generosity of Mr. McCann and The Claire Friedlander Family Foundation. Their philanthropic support enables The McCann Endoscopy Center to continue to offer patients state-of-the-art diagnostics coupled with minimally invasive interventions, performed by some of the world’s leading experts in the field,” said John F. Collins, President and CEO of Winthrop.

“We are delighted to continue to support The McCann Endoscopy Center at Winthrop-University Hospital,” said Jim McCann. “Under the guidance of expert gastroenterologists and with the support of organizations such as the Claire Friedlander Family Foundation, the Center will continue to make a lasting impact in the lives of countless patients in our local communities.”

The McCann Endoscopy Center at Winthrop, which opened in 2005 thanks to the support of Mr. McCann and his wife, Marylou, features six procedure rooms, 13 recovery stations, a two-bed prep and recovery area exclusively for children, a nursing station dedicated to Endoscopy Center patients, and a patient changing and locker room. The facility is equipped with advanced technology to perform endoscopic ultrasound, a state-of-the-art technique that combines endoscopy and ultrasound to permit visualization of the pancreas and other deep-seated organs, as well as the diagnosis and staging of lung and gastrointestinal tumors.
