On September 20, Liz and Jim Golden of Garden City, Co-Chairs and Hosts of Winthrop-University Hospital’s 2012 Yuletide Ball, spearheaded a Kick-Off Cocktail Reception in the Children’s Medical Center at Winthrop. New participants, as well as longtime supporters of the fundraiser, gathered to celebrate the event’s annual planning and show their support for pediatric services and Child Life at Winthrop.
Winthrop’s Yuletide Ball is a popular local gathering for Garden City residents, as it raises crucial funds in support of the Child Life Program. It also provides community members with an opportunity to attend an elegant evening of live music and fine dining at the home of a local Garden City family during the holiday season. This year’s Yuletide Ball will take place on Saturday, December 8 at the Golden’s home featuring a traditional Christmas sit-down dinner.
Thanks to the efforts of faithful supporters from the community, Winthrop’s Yuletide Ball has raised nearly two million dollars in support of the Hospital’s Child Life Program, which is dedicated to helping children understand and cope with the hospital experience. Certified Child Life Specialists utilize therapeutic play, arts and crafts, entertainment and other diversions to ensure that the hospital experience is as stress-free as possible for children and their families.
