Clinical Trials

Topic   Cardiology
Title   The Euro Observation Research Program, Registry of Pregnancy and Cardiac Disease (ROPAC)
Summary   This registry will collect information about pregnant women with structural heart disease, aortic abnormalities or pulmonary hypertension.
Description   A registry is a collection of information about patients that is usually focused around a specific diagnosis or condition. Current knowledge about the risks of pregnancy and delivery in patients with heart disease is limited. It is not fully known what the impact of pregnancy is on the heart, whether any deterioration in heart function that occurs during pregnancy is reversible, or whether any type of heart disease may be linked specifically to pregnancy. It is also not known whether common cardiac medications used, such as anticoagulants (blood thinners) may affect the mother’s heart condition and/or the fetus’ health. ROPAC registry seeks to collect data about pregnant women who have cardiac problems in order to evaluate the information and establish protocols based on the evidence collected. Data for this registry is collected from patients during their usual, routine “standard of care” outpatient clinic visits.
IRB Number   679008-2
Inclusion/Notes   All consecutive women (meaning in a row, or in the order in which they arrive) with specific types of heart disease who become pregnant may be eligible. The following heart conditions in pregnant women are included, 1) structural heart disease (such as problems with valves, congenital problems (from birth), 2) ischemia (reduced blood flow to the heart muscle), 3) cardiomyopathy (weakened heart muscle), 4) problems with the structure of the aorta, or 5) pulmonary hypertension (a type of high blood pressure that affects the arteries in the lungs and on the right side of the heart).
