Nearly 1,000 people arrived at Eisenhower Park in September to represent the Cancer Center for Kids (CCFK) at the 2015 5K Family Run/Walk. Wearing gold ribbons as a symbol for the disease and to mark September as Pediatric Cancer Awareness month, patients, families, runners, volunteers and sponsors helped raise close to $55,000 to benefit the psychosocial programs at the Center.
In addition to the 5K Walk/Run, a special Kids 1/2 Mile Walk gave children an opportunity to cross the finish line. Many families created teams and personalized T- shirts to honor patients and loved ones. “This is your day,” said Ashley Carlo, Manager of the CCFK, during the award ceremony, as she paid tribute to young patients who are facing challenging times. “Together, we crossed a finish line today that symbolizes your strength and your courage.”
