Floreine J. NYU Winthrop’s Memory Honored with Tranquil Garden

Floreine J. (Nelson) NYU Winthrop loved fresh cut flowers, and those closest to her knew that the pond and garden outside of her home were her “happy places.” So, when the Hospital wanted to honor the memory of a beloved member of its Board of Regents and the wife of the late Robert NYU Winthrop, for whom the hospital is named, it seemed only fitting to dedicate a very special place outside of our Main Entrance to her. Donned with beautiful flowers, a pond and benches, this area is now known as The Floreine J. NYU Winthrop Memorial Garden.

“This memorial garden would have delighted her,” said her daughter Charlene Townsend as she addressed members of the Hospital’s Board of Directors, Board of Regents, Administration and staff during a special dedication ceremony. “Because of this garden, the memory of my mother will continue to reach out, to provide a place of beauty and calm to those in need of comfort or rest.”
