Lieutenant Governor Tours New Research & Academic Center

Earlier this summer, NYU Winthrop was pleased to welcome Kathy Hochul, Lieutenant Governor of New York State, to its new Research and Academic Center.

Lieutenant Governor Hochul toured the Treiber Family Conference Center, the state-of the art Simulation Center, as well as visited the endocrinology practice and the Biomedical Research Laboratory, where she heard from staff directly about the great work that is transpiring in the new 95,000-square-foot building, which was, in part, made possible thanks to a generous $1 million grant from the New York State Regional Economic Development Council (REDC).

The REDC, a key component of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s transformative approach to state investment and economic development, also recently awarded the Hospital a separate $1.5 million grant to expand the Research & Academic Center by funding the purchase of an information technology server, additional research equipment, and other important projects.

New York State Senator Jack M. Martins also joined the tour and greeted Ms. Hochul at the Mineola facility, where it was suggested that the site could serve as a great venue for a future REDC meeting.
