U.S. News & World Report Names NYU Winthrop Among the Best in the New York Metro Area

US News and World Report best Regional Hospitals - NYU Winthrop Hospital NYU Winthrop has been ranked as one of the best hospitals for 2013-14 in the New York Metro Area by U.S. News & World Report. In addition, NYU Winthrop was ranked as having 12 high performing specialties, including cancer; cardiology and heart surgery; ear, nose and throat; gastroenterology and GI surgery; geriatrics; gynecology; nephrology; neurology and neurosurgery; orthopaedics; pulmonology; urology and, new for this year, diabetes and endocrinology.

The annual U.S. News “Best” rankings, now in their 24th year, recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients.

“NYU Winthrop Hospital is proud to once again be recognized among the best hospitals in the region by U.S. News & World Report,” said John F. Collins, NYU Winthrop’s President and CEO. “These impressive rankings are a testament to the quality care that is delivered each day across the wide range of services that are provided to patients by our outstanding team of physicians, nurses and clinical staff.”

“A hospital that emerges from our analysis as one of the best has much to be proud of,” said Avery Comarow, U.S. News Health Rankings Editor. “Only about 15 percent of hospitals are recognized for their high performance as among their region’s best.”

The Children’s Medical Center at NYU Winthrop also earns high rankings

3-2 The Children’s Medical Center at NYU Winthrop has again been named to U.S. News & World Report’s Best Children’s Hospitals rankings for demonstrating excellence in the specialties of pediatric diabetes and endocrinology, urology and, new for 2013-14, pediatric pulmonology.

The rankings highlight the top 50 U.S. hospitals in various pediatric specialties. NYU Winthrop was among only 62 children’s hospitals nationwide that received a national ranking in three or more specialties.

Among The Children’s Medical Center’s notable accomplishments this year include the Division of Pediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology’s placement among the top 20 programs in the country; the pediatric urology program’s movement up in the rankings from 48 in 2012-13 to 44 this year; and the addition of another nationally ranked pediatric specialty – pulmonology – which placed 34 on this year’s list.

“NYU Winthrop Hospital deserves high praise,” said Health Rankings Editor Avery Comarow. “Ranking shows the dedication and expertise that NYU Winthrop’s Children’s Medical Center brings to the care of children who need those qualities the most. We think it is important to identify and call attention to pediatric centers like this one.”

U.S. News introduced the Best Children’s Hospitals rankings in 2007 to help families of sick children find the best medical care available. The rankings offer families an exclusive look at qualityrelated information at the individual hospital level.

“We are proud that for the past several years, The Children’s Medical Center at NYU Winthrop has been named among the Best Children’s Hospitals in the nation. This is truly an impressive accomplishment and I am pleased that now three of our pediatric specialties have been recognized for their outstanding programs and quality,” said Warren Rosenfeld, MD, Chairman of Pediatrics at NYU Winthrop. “We are proud not only that we received recognition, but also that we continue to move higher on the rankings list each year.”
