Breast Cancer Counseling and Support
At NYU Winthrop's Breast Health Center, we recognize that patients often need more than just treatment. To help them navigate through the process of fighting breast cancer, we offer various types of counseling and support services to ease their stress and anxiety and provide them with all the resources they may need:
- A licensed Breast Health Center Social Worker will provide you and your family with emotional support, navigate through insurance, financial and other logistical issues and refer you to appropriate wellness programs and local resources.
- Breast Imaging Nurse Navigators and a Breast Health Center Nurse Navigator who help patients move seamlessly through the many diagnostic tests, procedures, physician visits and treatments.
- Genetic counseling and testing which seeks to identify and reduce risk, prevent disease and increase life expectancy among patients.
- Post treatment survivorship summary/program that helps you manage your health in the long-term.
- Referrals to physical and occupational therapy services.
- Lifestyle and support group programs such as survivor support groups, yoga, strength training and nutrition.

Speak to someone who has been there. The network of over 100 volunteers is made up of breast cancer survivors who are here when you need them.
As survivors themselves, they can relate to what you are going through. Our volunteers are professionally trained and receive supervision from licensed social workers. They come from diverse backgrounds and experiences and know breast cancer is not the same for everyone.
We can match you with a breast cancer survivor who has had the same diagnosis, treatment, reconstruction and/or who has experienced similar issues. You can speak to them as often as needed. If you would like to connect to one of our volunteers for information, support, and advocacy, call the Adelphi Breast Cancer Hotline anytime at 800-877-8077.
Strength Training is a program facilitated by a Certified Cancer Exercise Specialist from the non-profit organization Strength For Life.
The most crucial factor to consider when incorporating exercise into your recovery plan is working with a health professional who understands all the variables that come into play with a cancer diagnosis and it's treatment.
Strength for Life's Certified Cancer Exercise Specialist’s mission is to empower, inspire and strengthen by using exercise as a method of healing.
