Breast Cancer Screening & Diagnosis
NYU Winthrop’s all-digital Breast Imaging & Diagnostic Center – an American College of Radiology designated Center of Excellence – is the gateway to superior screening, diagnosis and care. Services include:
- Comprehensive diagnostic breast imaging, including state-of-the-art mammography with tomosynthesis, ultrasonography and MRI.
- Breast MRI and Breast MRI-guided core biopsy, CT and PET scans
- Evaluation and treatment of all types of breast conditions, including benign and malignant tumors, breast pain, suspicious and abnormal mammograms, monitoring and counseling of high-risk population, including previously diagnosed breast cancer and genetic mutations (BRCA1 and BRCA2).
- Minimally invasive biopsy techniques, including stereotactic and ultrasound-guided core needle, fine needle aspiration, galactography and MRI-guided breast biopsies.
To reduce patient anxiety, the Center’s imaging specialists provide diagnostic results rapidly, often while patients wait.
Breast Cancer Screening Patient Navigation Project
The Breast Cancer Screening Patient Navigation Project, funded by a grant from the New York State Department of Health, seeks to expand services for underserved women, regardless of their insurance status, to navigate the healthcare system to complete breast cancer screening.
Our Patient Navigator will accept age-appropriate (40 - 64 average risk or under the age of 40 at high risk) referrals from community physicians and community organizations. The Patient Navigator will contact those patients who are referred and help them navigate their way through the health care system, so that each patient can get her mammogram and easily follow-up on any positive results.
