How to Become a Junior Volunteer

A prospective JUNIOR volunteer must be between the ages of 16 to 18 years to be accepted into the Junior Volunteer Program.

The orientation class is MANDATORY in order to be accepted into the program.

Health Requirements

A recent physical exam, proof of immunizations and a tuberculosis (TB) skin testing (PPD Mantoux method) must be provided by your physician within 12 months prior to the application due date. Positive skin test responders will require a chest x-ray. A TB skin test is required annually, unless you are a positive skin test responder. Volunteers will be required to provide proof of being vaccinated with the current year’s Flu Vaccine in order to volunteer during flu season.  According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), flu season begins October 1st each year.

Employee Certificate

Working papers are obtained at local schools. After providing the necessary information to the guidance department, the issuing counselor or designated school official will provide the applicant with an Employee Certificate. The original Employee Certificate must be attached to the Junior Volunteer Application. Photocopies will not be accepted. Original Employee Certificates are returned after the application has been processed.


After acceptance into the Junior Volunteer Program, prospective volunteers will be notified to attend an orientation which includes an in-service workshop conducted by the Hospital’s professional staff. Attendance is Mandatory. After orientation, each Junior Volunteer will be notified of their placement via email and given information on scheduling an appointment for an identification badge and other necessary information to start.


Junior Volunteers are required to work a minimum of one (1) shift per week of three (3) hours while school is in session. Additional shifts may be available at request when school is out of session. 

Junior Volunteers are scheduled to work between the hours of 8am - 7pm. Flexible scheduling is available to accommodate both schoolwork and family responsibilities. 

All services provided by volunteers are performed at the specific request of the Hospital’s administration and fill specific needs. These services are supervised by the Manager of Volunteer Services who is responsible for the fulfillment of these services.
